And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in [Jesus] because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” John 4:39
The now-famous woman at the well was ecstatic! Nothing in her dark past was hidden from Him with whom she had spoken. The love in the voice of Jesus as they conversed was clearly evident. He knew all about it, yet He loved her!
There is a threshold that, once crossed, makes ALL the difference between knowing about Jesus and personally knowing Him, The God Who Sees (see Genesis 16:13). In this world, such as it is, there are many painful, hurtful memories in each one’s past because of sin. Some are perpetrated by others onto an individual, while some are self-inflicted. Regardless of the cause of pain, the One who desires to bring wholeness and healing has never changed in any way. His love for each of us is steadfast, from everlasting . . . (Jeremiah 31:3)
Philip told Nathanael about Jesus: “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” And Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” John 1:45-46
Rather than answer Nathanael’s question, Philip simply invited him to meet Jesus. “Come and see.” We are not told exactly what Nathanael’s issues were, but we can surmise that earlier he had honestly and transparently poured out his heart to Almighty God. To be alone, he had hidden himself under a fig tree.
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, “Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!” Nathanael said to Him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” v.47-48
Beloved, take comfort in knowing that He indeed is The God Who Sees. And He wants to reveal Himself to you. He wants you to see Him! Are you looking?
Nathanael answered and said to Him, “Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” v.49-50
