By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. Hebrews 11:8

God has never allowed true faith on the earth to become extinct. While idolatry beckoned from every side, the simple and unquestioning obedience of Abraham is powerful evidence of his faith. Faithful among the faithless, Abraham’s course of action was inexplicable to his friends, associates, even kindred. Being immersed in idolatry rendered them unable to comprehend his motives, for spiritual things are spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:14).

Earlier, Noah had recognized his “membership” in the corrupt society of the world. Scripture tells us Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD (Genesis 6:8). The word translated found is an active verb—not passive. Noah recognized the state of his soul and sought after God!

The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who call upon Him in truth. Psalm 145:18

We may call upon Him! Throughout His Word, we are shown how He lovingly calls to us to “come out” of that which separates us from Him. It is a pattern. He called Adam and Eve out of hiding, Abram out of the Chaldeans, Lot out of Sodom, Moses out of the desert, Israel out of Egypt. He made Noah into a preacher of righteousness (2 Peter 2:5). Today’s pitfalls are no different from the list of distractions provided by the enemy of our souls in ancient times. Our faithful Creator and Redeemer continues to call to us away from the confusion and distractions of the corrupted world:

And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, My people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.” Revelation 18:4

The “chosen” and “elect” of any generation are those who answer His call, and understand that He is available at all times to be called upon!

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
