For in [the gospel of Christ] the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written: “The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:17

Martin Luther exited Pilate’s staircase, and Rome also, though he didn’t yet know it would be necessary to leave the church altogether. He hastened away in shame, clearly seeing the fallacy of trusting to human works for salvation. He saw the danger of exalting human theories above God’s Word. After his return to Wittenberg, Luther received the Doctor of Divinity degree. He devoted himself, as never before, to the beloved Scriptures. He took a vow to preach with fidelity the truth of God’s Word. He knew he was called to feed the flock of God—and they were hungering for truth. Confident in the power of God’s Word to rid the church of unbiblical teachings, Martin forged ahead with unwavering determination. But his firm declaration that Christian doctrines must rest on the Sacred Scriptures alone struck at the very heart of papal supremacy. He denounced as “pernicious” the human philosophy being used to hold a controlling influence upon the people. Precious was Luther’s message! The glad tidings of the Savior’s love and the assurance of pardon and peace through His atoning blood brought joy to weary, worn-down hearts and inspired within them an immortal hope! Like flowers blooming, the hearts of individuals were opening up to a transformation of renewal and cleansing.

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.   Philippians 4:19

Hallelujah! Glory to God! Many people placed their faith in Jesus as the result of Martin’s preaching. There was nothing Martin wanted more than spiritual revival and cleansing from false teachings in the church. Nevertheless, the system as a whole, did not change. Her man-made teachings and false doctrines, mingled with bits of Biblical truth, are still to this day maintained by the leadership. This is why Jesus calls this worldwide system of worship “Babylon” (see Revelation 17:5, 18:2). It is descended from the tower of Babel (Genesis 11). The prophet Jeremiah was divinely shown the unwillingness of Babylon, as a system, to repent.

Flee from the midst of Babylon, And everyone save his life! Do not be cut off in her iniquity… We would have healed Babylon, But she [refuses to be] healed. Forsake her… Jeremiah 51:6a,9a

“Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird!” “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.” Revelation 18:2,4
