You search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. John 5:39

Knowing Jesus intimately, for Who He is, has saving power. It is possible to search the scriptures and miss the real Jesus. This is why having His Holy Spirit as our Teacher is essential! The religious leaders of Jesus’ day had the written word, but their traditions and attitudes had grieved away the Holy Spirit. They had wandered to the right and to the left, becoming entrenched in teachings that obscured the life principles intended by God. To the right were the Pharisees and to the left were the Sadducees. From there, things became political as both groups sought to win followers. By the end of the earthly ministry of Jesus, they had united over a common enemy: JESUS! Of course He saw this coming, as evidenced by His above statement. The error was repeated in the church of the dark ages, and is a foreshadowing of the perilous times that we are coming upon as this earth’s history comes to its close.

Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” Whenever you turn to the right hand Or whenever you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:2

Do not turn to the right or to the left; Remove your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:27

Before he was put to death on July 6, 1415, John Huss commented that God would surely visit the people within a hundred years. His statement was quite prophetic. Martin Luther was soon to come upon the scene and rock the world. He was born in 1483 in Germany to peasant parents. By thriftiness and toil, they sent him at age 18 to the University of Erfurt. One day in the library there, he came across a Bible. He had never seen such a book and had been ignorant even of its existence. Going through God’s Word with his own eyes, he read with awe and wonder the words of life, exclaiming: “O that God would give me such a book for myself!”

For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.  Romans 15:4
