His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us…[and] given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust…knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.  2 Peter 1:3,4,20,21

In our ‘instant-gratification’ modern world, among things that pertain to life and godliness are the exceedingly great and precious promises of God. These promises are about what He desires to do in us, for us, and through us—but only those who trust Him wholeheartedly will recognize His divine power at work. If my faith and hope for the future are in the precious promises of the one true God, then the prophecy of Scripture becomes a subject to pursue vigorously. The same Holy Spirit of God who inspired the prophets (for prophecy never came by the will of man) is also our Teacher, perfectly willing and able to impart the knowledge of Him who called us.

Our instant-gratification modern world is filled to the brim with things that pertain to death and ungodliness. As the man or woman of God looks upward to Jesus, His Spirit will bring stinging conviction, pointing out that which is wrong. On the spot, you must choose to agree, saying, “Yes, that is wrong in me!” He is not demanding that you make it right; but as you receive the light of truth He imparts, He will make it right. When you confess your wrongdoing, you are allowing God to deal with it. Sin has a sticky residue that only He can remove. And, OH! - brothers and sisters take heart, for the miracle of His grace will also bring opportunities for you to see the proof of it in very practical ways. You will be surprised and delighted at a response elicited from yourself (or others that you know well) that would have been impossible before… Through His promises in which you trust, could it be that you are becoming partakers of the divine nature?

And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart…  2 Corinthians 4:13-16a
