But the other said, “Let him be neither mine nor yours, but divide him.” 1 Kings 3:26b

Let us look more closely at the false woman. How did she lose her son in the first place? Most likely she slept on him, for that is what she accused the other woman of doing. This illustrates a marked carelessness in her relationship with her child. In her denial of her own guilt, she was willing to steal someone else’s child, and accuse another of her own crime before the king. In other words, carelessness can cause one to enter onto the devil’s path and lose the son [Son]! Her unwillingness to accept the first truth led her into a veritable lineup of further sins. And when King Solomon announced, in his God-given wisdom, the “solution” to the problem: “Divide the living child in two,” the false woman was content to kill the child.

Another way of saying it is: she was content to divide the body. She would place her own will, regardless of the division it caused, above the unity of the body.

Sin and error cause division in the body of Christ. Some are content to have the body of Christ divided – or to have only “half of Jesus” while their other half takes part in ungodliness. But salvation doesn’t work like that. Either you have the Son or you do not have the Son. Jesus will not be a “roommate” with the father of lies (John 8:44). He said:

“Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” Matthew 12:25

He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 1 John 5:12

Wise King Solomon was interested in knowing just one thing in this case: Who truly loves the child? His proposed solution brought revelation that gave him exactly what he needed to know in order to judge rightly. Beloved, in the final judgement, this is the bottom line.

So the king answered and said, “Give the first woman the living child, and by no means kill him; she is his mother.” And all Israel heard of the judgement which the king had rendered; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice. 1 Kings 3:27-28

Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgement has come… Revelation 14:7a
