He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” Now this “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. Hebrews 12:26b-28
The writer of Hebrews is alluding to a verse in Daniel, centering on the idea that the outcome of divine judgement is that people of God are to be the recipients of His kingdom.
But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever. Daniel 7:18
Both of these passages speak of the kingdom to be received by God’s people, the saints. Both affirm that the kingdom cannot be destroyed, meaning that it will last for eternity. A major difference, however, is that in Daniel, that which is far into the future, is happening in the present tense in Hebrews: we are receiving a kingdom…
Jesus will soon be returning to gather His people who are waiting for Him. The shaking of the last days is working as the refiner’s fire. The devil’s strategies are intensifying, for he knows his time is short (Revelation 12:12), which will tempt many to move further away from the Lord and His word. But others, indeed many others, will draw closer to Him, study His word deeply, and endeavor—through the Holy Spirit’s power—to live by it.
But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire and like a launderer’s soap. Malachi 3:2
For the faithful people of God, the judgement represents a glorious and joyful time of relief from the enemies of God. Beloved, there is pre-advent judgement already occurring! Court is convening even as the little horn and his sidekick (known as the first and second beast of Revelation 13) are fulfilling prophecy. Daniel saw this in vision and it clearly conveys a judgement process even as pompous words continue to emanate from the little horn (see 7:8-11).
Jesus instructs and comforts His people in His word, even as He intercedes for us in the heavenly court. In all of His glory and majesty, He is also the Friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). He said:
“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32
