June 1: The Earth Speaks

But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; And the birds of the air and they will tell you; Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; And the fish of the sea will explain to you. Who among these does not know That the hand of the LORD has done this? Job 12:7-9

God is love. This is exactly why there is a limit to His tolerance of evil. He will indeed bring it to an end. In the establishment of His kingdom of glory and righteousness, there is evidence for the workings of His goodness in the midst of a world caught in the downward spiral of Satan’s deceptions and treachery. Our heavenly Father is powerfully at work to stir our hearts toward a recognition of His provision for eternal safety and joy. His love letter to us is also His instruction manual for life. He continues to extend the opportunity for each of us to choose the life-affirming path. When this opportunity ceases to be available, probation will have closed. Decisions will be fixed, and the judgement that follows will unfailingly uphold all who choose Him without reservation.

Jesus referred to the time of His return as the end of the age (Matthew 13:39). Also known as the harvest, it is when Jesus returns in glory to gather His elect. The forerunner to this end-time event is the worldwide flood described in Genesis and referred to numerous times elsewhere in Scripture.

Could a worldwide catastrophe really happen? Today, there are many who deny the reality of a worldwide flood in our earth’s past. One of the reasons for this is that there is a parallel denial of the future judgement soon to come, as detailed in Scripture. But, as Job hinted above, evidence of the flood is all around us. The widespread, water-based catastrophe was most definitely a global event unlike anything the world has witnessed in modern times. Even the rock layers themselves testify to the reality of the flood. The geologic column found in North America, both in structure and fossil content, matches that of Europe, Asia, Australia, and other scattered locations. The powerful movement of the floodwaters facilitated massive deposits of material, layer by layer in rapid succession. This explains the flat, horizontal contact points. The layer containing entire phyla of fossilized creatures, fully formed, testifies to the suddenness with which these creatures were buried. This evidence of rapid burial on a global scale is accented by the preservation of fish in upright swim mode with food in their mouths. The simultaneous events that brought the flood began suddenly on one particular day:

In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep were broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened. Genesis 7:11
