January 25: PRAYERS OF THE SAINTS

The Rock of Israel spoke to me: ‘He who rules over men must be just, Ruling in the fear of God. And he shall be like the light of the morning when the sun rises.’ 2 Samuel 23:3-4a

King David, at the end of his life and painfully aware of his failings, found satisfaction in praising the Rock of Israel for His forgiveness, guidance, faithfulness, and salvation. When David recorded these words, it was for the benefit of future leaders as well as being prophetically descriptive of the One who is soon coming as KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS (Revelation 19:16).

“Although my house is not so with God, yet He has made with me an everlasting covenant, Ordered in all things and secure. For this is all my salvation and all my desire; Will He not make it increase?” 2 Samuel 23:5

David’s confidence in the workings of the LORD beyond his own time on the earth was unshakeable. He also understood that his prayers were precious to God.

Let my prayers be set before You as incense… Psalm 141:2

Centuries later, the Apostle John records his vision of the risen Jesus: Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. Revelation 5:8

Beloved, it may be that many of your prayers will be answered after your death. Keep pouring them out fervently to our gracious Lord with complete confidence in His divine purposes. He is keeping them for the proper time. No doubt, there are fervent prayers that King David prayed for his Jewish brethren that are still being answered today.

Peter said, “Men and brethren, let me speak freely to you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Acts 2:29

To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven. Ecclesiastes 3:1

Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
