Then God said, “Let there be light” and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.  Genesis 1:3-5

God could have made everything in a nanosecond, but instead He made it in an orderly and systematic way over a period of six days, then added the Sabbath as a special bonus: time with Him! He divided….light from darkness, firmament from waters, dry land from seas. Could it be that He is teaching us to make distinctions?

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth” 2 Timothy 2:15

With so many conflicting doctrines being taught in the world today, the need is critical for making distinctions. Every area of human life is addressed in God’s Word. When two opposing doctrines are presented in the mainstream of Christian teaching, it is obvious they cannot both be correct. Therefore, it is vital to clarify! Playing the “ostrich” is not a defense for failing to distinguish between truth and error. Truth may hurt, but error can kill.

The subject of obedience to our Creator is not a complicated issue, but much of today’s teaching has rendered people quite fuzzy in their thinking on this issue. Make a commitment today, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, to abandon all fuzziness! While God doesn’t hold me accountable for truth I have never had opportunity to learn, His Word is clear that I am accountable for the light I have been given. A great danger comes in failing to esteem the mercy of God. There are so many who refuse or neglect to seek, study, listen, or learn how to please Him; or perhaps they understand something that they do not intend to obey. Or maybe they plan to obey it later. But delayed obedience is disobedience. Procrastination is one of the devil’s most effective traps. Beloved, make God’s will for you your own. You can “will to do His will”!

Jesus said, “Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you.” John 12:35

“My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me. If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God…” John 7:16-17a

For it is God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6
