Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of  knowledge. Proverbs 19:27 (KJV)

Stop listening to teaching that contradicts God’s word! Paul warned: … evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived (2 Timothy 3:13). This is especially applicable to the time in which we live.

Many doctrines swirling about have a form of godliness (v.5) and may sound wise, but, beloved, if you want to be wise unto salvation (v.15), you will discern the popular teachings that oppose the teachings of Jesus. Growing in Christ means being willing to relinquish concepts from the spirit of the world. Every erroneous idea relinquished opens a door for a greater understanding of the character of God. As love for Him increases, hatred for sin and its effects will also increase.

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. 1 Corinthians 2:12

What things? To begin, the Source of life has freely given us life. He does not want us to die! His heavenly government is set before us that we will learn now how to live according to His standard in eternity. If we are to become citizens under His divine rule, then we must allow His Word to take hold of us even as we take hold of it. Recognize that every precious, life-saving teaching from the Lord will meet with multiple push-backs from the deceiver. Test the spirits (1 John 4).

“Scripture must be its own expositor, since it is a rule of itself. If I depend on a teacher to expound it to me, and he should guess at its meaning, or desire to have it so on account of his sectarian creed, or to be thought wise, then his guessing, desire, creed, or wisdom is my rule, and not the Bible.” William Miller

You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies. Psalm 119:98
