I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food. Job 23:12
Job’s high regard for the words of Yahweh was essential to his being regarded as a blameless and upright man (Job 1:8). Do we treasure the words of His mouth like that? Placing the highest value on Biblical teachings guards against being swallowed up by Satan’s deceptions.
The Lord Jesus, before His earthly ministry ended, promised His followers the Holy Spirit to aid in our journey through a fallen world where, without exception, every precept of God is attacked, either subtly or blatantly. There is at least one counterfeit for each truth of God’s word, and in some cases many counterfeits . . . and increasing by the day!
“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” John 16:12-13
The time of the end* in which we live is fraught with many lies about God’s character that must be unlearned. Jesus knew they could not be addressed all at once. Even during the days of His earthly ministry, His disciples went through a process of disentanglement with teachings rooted in the misunderstandings of the Sanhedrin in general, “add-ons” of the Pharisees, Egyptian and Hellenistic philosophies, not to mention Greek and Roman mythologies.
Can God’s Holy Spirit do that for me? Can He truly prepare me for things to come? What must I do to be certain the Holy Spirit is guiding my study of God’s word?
“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Luke 11:9-10
