August 24: STORMS

See it:

Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:38-40

Obey it:

A while back, a pretty nasty storm gripped the South. Storms come in all shapes and sizes to our lives:
A cancer diagnosis.
A breakup in a family.
A habit that leads to a bad choice that leads to a negative consequence.
A lack of _________________.

Storms do three things:

1.      Storms reveal what you think about Jesus. The disciples thought that Jesus didn’t care. We do the same sometimes. We blame Him for the bad that happens and attribute the good to talent or good luck.

2.      Storms reveal who is really in control. We are not. He is.

3.      Storms reveal the power of Jesus. He calmed their storm. He can calm yours.

There are people around you who are in the midst of storms. People that would otherwise not be interested in spiritual things are more open in the middle of a crisis. You may be able to share this thought with them.

Share it:
1. Introduce yourself to someone you always see around.
2. Anonymously send a friend in need some cash.
3. Invite someone who is alone over for dinner.

My prayer today:
Help me, Father, to see with Your eyes the people around me that are in the midst of a storm and provide support and guidance through your Holy Spirit and Your peace. Amen.
