And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, Armageddon. Revelation 16:16
In spite of the recently exposed fraudulent activities and failed promises of the ‘unholy trinity’—which dried up their support for a brief time (v.12)—they manage to convince the world’s powers, both sacred and secular, to unite once again against God. Verse 16 above succinctly states that the signs performed (v.14) are wildly successful on a massive scale. Armageddon, meaning the mountain of Megiddo, is selected by the apostle John to represent the final face-off in the struggle between good and evil because of the well-known frequency of that location for decisive battles in the past. The actual location of the final battle will be all over the world! The use of the word Armageddon is familiar terminology for symbolizing this final great conflict.
With the world powers unified for this showdown, they will take their stand against the Lord and His people who are described repeatedly as commandment-keepers (John 14:15, 15:14, 1 John 5:2-3, Revelation 12:17, 13:10, 14:12).
The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the LORD and against His Anointed. Psalm 2:2
The ultimate battle in the war between good and evil known as the battle of Armageddon is not a political and military battle. It is just as it has always been: a spiritual and theological one. God is allowing a display of all things that go against His word, that every soul may be brought to a point of decision.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Ephesians 6:12
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:2-5
