June 3: Underway: Restoration of Truth
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Genesis 1:1
It is vital for God’s people to recognize that every precept of Scripture is under attack. The very mention of God instantly closes the minds of all who do not believe He exists. This is the enemy’s way of preventing faith.
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
Our character is relentlessly assaulted by the steady chipping away at the image of God originally placed within the make-up of humans, thus marring the divine Creator’s image in us. This inevitably blinds our recognition of those character traits the Lord Jesus desires to develop in us. We are so affected by the enemy’s influences that our own hearts become his instruments to deceive. Shallow personality traits and undue attention toward outer beauty tend to be substituted for the character we were intended by our Creator to possess. Even our responsible dominion over the earth has yielded to cruelty, greed, and disregard of the Creator’s gifts.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26
In recent decades, the ancient attack upon the very next verse has greatly intensified. Satan’s attack on humans is actually an attack on God; he would have us to believe and propagate that sexuality is separate from the rest of one’s character and that the church should declare no need of repentance in the case of deviations from God’s design. “Gender confusion” is manifesting in more and yet more deviations to destroy the gift of God to marry and raise families: So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. (v.27)
God crowned His creation with a glorious day of rest on the seventh day (Genesis 2:1-3). This 24-hour period intended for a welcome break from regular work provides uninterrupted quality time with the Creator. By conditioning God’s people to honor human traditions above His word, the enemy has inserted his own command in order make the commands and promises of God of no effect (see the words of Jesus in Matthew 15:3,6; Mark 7:7,13).
If Satan can prevent faith altogether through disbelief in the existence of our Creator, he is pleased. But he doesn’t stop there, for he works relentlessly to erect barriers between God and those who desire to know and please Him. This includes multiple attacks upon all of Scripture in order to divide God’s people as well as weaken and alter the intent of Scripture. But God is executing a far superior plan; one that is effectively restoring all that He intends for His people to know and to have and to be: all that He intended from the beginning…
“For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language, That they all may call on the name of the LORD, To serve Him with one accord.” Zephaniah 3:9
