July 29:  The Author of The Love Letter

The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament shows His handiwork. Psalm 19:1

The beauties and glories of God’s creation compile a massive storehouse of treasures to discover. They are a display of the lavishness with which He bestows gifts upon the objects of His love. The potential for endless learning and discovery excites keen minds to explore everything from the smallest atom to the outer reaches of space, yet the vast majority of exploration and discovery lies far beyond the reaches of fallen humanity.

There is another glorious storehouse of treasures within our grasp. Its exploration and discovery reveal everything necessary for the meek soul who longs to know the Creator who loves him. The written word is His love letter of redemption and encouragement to each one whose heart is broken over his own sin and rebellion. The knowledge of God is most clearly revealed to fallen humanity in the Bible. Only he who is meek and humble can accept the basic instructions, warnings, corrections, and rebukes contained in the love letter. This is because the meek and humble one recognizes the mercy that is being extended to him.

The Scriptures are a river of revelations from God to man. It is man who artificially created a division in them as the “Old and New Testaments.” They are the testimonies of God to man, and neither the Old nor the New is complete without the other. When Jesus walked the earth, the written word up to that point was what we call the “Old Testament.” He frequently quoted from it to highlight and clarify the intent contained therein. It is a sad fact that fallen humanity has a crooked tendency of isolating, twisting, and ignoring large swaths of Scripture in order to wrest its meaning and insert a different one (2 Peter 3:16). All of the types and shadows point to the Creator and Redeemer, who lovingly desires to give you and me the opportunity to endlessly pursue discovery of the beauties and glories of our Maker (He is our Savior!) as well as those of creation itself.

Beloved, be challenged to discover what you can learn about Him today. Make notes! You will be well-instructed. With the help of His Holy Spirit, you can align your life in accordance with the Writer of the ultimate love letter.
