July 27: THAT LIAR LEVIATHAN
In that day the LORD with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; and He will slay the reptile that is in the sea. Isaiah 27:1
For every discovery of truth in the word of God – also known as the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17) – falsehoods are exposed. For example, the reading His word reveals that Satan will be put to death. The certainty of this simple truth is expressed in numerous ways.* Everyone who accepts this as fact is protected from the manipulative false doctrine of an eternally burning hell, an idea that is one of the pillars of the counterfeit church. It is used to frighten people into expressing lifelong loyalty verbally, monetarily, and through performing penance as a way to “earn” forgiveness from God. A companion falsehood is the teaching that loyalty to this human institution is the only way to avoid the “eternally burning hell.” The origin of this teaching is found in pagan mythology which trickled into the compromising churches in the early centuries of the New Testament (see Revelation 2:12-23).
Leviathan the fleeing serpent is symbolic of Satan, who knows that he has [only] a short time [left] (Revelation 12:12); he is the inspiration for all false teachings perpetuated in the world by churches. These churches consist of peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues symbolized as waters (Revelation 17:15). Jesus referred to the devil as the father of lies (John 8:44). Isaiah expresses Satan’s presence as the reptile in the sea because he “swims” among the multitudes who have been caught up or born into the first “beast” of Revelation 13, the one that rose up out of the sea. The second “beast” of Revelation 13, the one that John saw coming up out of the earth (v.11), originally formed as a haven for those persecuted by the first beast, but is soon to form itself into an image of the first beast as an example to the world. This second beast is also called the false prophet in Revelation (16:13; 19:20; 20:10) because of its role as a speaker (through its laws) on behalf of the first beast.
Leviathan that twisted serpent is behind the twisting of God’s words for his own purposes. The teaching of eternal torture has done more to drive people to atheism and insanity than any other invention of Satan. Our God teaches that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). The punishment of the unrepentant wicked is death, and this death is everlasting. Revelation calls it the second death (2:11; 20:6,14; 21:8).
The serpent, called the devil and Satan, in denial of God’s warning, told Eve: “You will not surely die” (see Genesis 2:17 & 3:4). Incredibly, all false religions and nearly every Christian church in the world teach the same lie: that the soul is inherently immortal and therefore cannot die. But immortality is a gift from God for the repentant! – the gift of eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality . . . Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. Romans 2:7…Revelation 14:12
*On the end of Satan, sin and sinners, and death itself: Isaiah 41:12; Jeremiah 50:39; 51:39,57; Ezekiel 18:4,20; 26:21; 28:18-19; Joel 3:17; Obadiah 16; Nahum 1:9,15; Malachi 4:1; Revelation 20:10,14
Forever means a period of time and can be limited or unlimited. To check a concordance, look up the word “ever.”
