July 15: The Counsel of the LORD
I will bless the LORD who has given me counsel; my heart also instructs me in the night seasons. I have set the LORD always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. Psalm 16:7-8
Dear brothers and sisters, we have access to the counsel of the LORD! When have I come to the “end of my rope” in an effort to reason everything out? It is highly likely that I have lowered my eyes toward human wisdom instead of turning to Him who is the Wonderful Counselor (Isaiah 9:6).
Our praise does indeed bless the LORD. In light of the pain of our God, the all-knowing One, who hurts when we hurt and suffers when we suffer, our praises to Him do bless Him indeed. The suffering in our world can be traced back to a lack of desire to seek (and heed!) the counsel of the LORD.
Beloved, do you value the Lord’s counsel above all human wisdom? It is a fact that His counsel is on a superior plain than that of human wisdom, insight or knowledge. His counsel is wonderful. The word translated wonderful implicitly points toward a supernatural element.
As you lay your head down at night, commit all of your unresolved problems to Him. He is able to speak into your heart, even as you sleep. Yoked to Him, you will navigate this maze of earthly troubles with peace in your heart. Go ahead and praise Him now, even for the counsel you have yet to understand. But be sure to obey all that you DO understand. Often our path is lit only one step at a time, so taking each step is essential to gain the benefits of His counsel. This life is fleeting. Don’t waste another hour trying to find your own way!
Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:104-105
You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me to glory. Psalm 73:24
