April 19: DIVINE APPOINTMENTS
My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand; When I awake, I am still with You. Psalm 139:15-18
Dear Brother or Sister, do you ever struggle with feelings of insignificance? Perhaps the duties that fall to you seem unimportant or overwhelming. Under God, refuse to take on a pitiful attitude! Whatever your situation, know for a fact no task is too mundane and no job so lowly that it falls outside of the reach and care of our Heavenly Father. Open your eyes each morning, take a deep breath, and ask to be filled by God’s Holy Spirit.
And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being (Genesis 2:7).
A literal understanding of being skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth points us to the physical elements and minerals of the earth. But well before He created these elements, you were in His mind. He saw you, for you were not hidden from Him at all. His thoughts toward you and His plan for your days are precious and priceless.
“Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” (John 20:21-22)
For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. (Psalm 103:4)
But the inspiration and the vision of God that come by His Spirit bring a freshness and vigor to the manner by which each task of the day is executed. In looking steadily to Him, I will begin to see others as He sees them. I will be alerted to the reality of others’ needs. This has an amazing way of balancing the tendency to be overly concerned for my own needs. No longer will duties be carried out merely through a sense of duty. The motivation of love steps in front of the sense of duty. Within the duties that fall on your list of responsibilities, miracles occur. When the Lord breathes life into your frame, the mundane becomes majestic, and the lowly becomes lofty. Your interactions with others are transformed into divine appointments.
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24
